Hi, I’m Michelle Simmons, founder of Slow North.

My journey began with a simple goal: create a healthier home for my growing family. After struggling to find truly non-toxic candles on the market, I gave them up altogether—even though I missed the calming ritual of lighting one at the end of a long day.

Everything changed in 2015 with the birth of our first son.
That moment sparked something deeper: a need for transparency, intentional living, and clean alternatives to the synthetic-filled products we unknowingly brought into our homes.

When I couldn’t find candles I trusted, I started making my own.
What started as a side project in our backyard quickly grew into something much more. We launched Slow North with one mission: to create beautiful, essential oil candles made with only the good stuff—no hidden toxins, no synthetic fragrances, no compromises.

From kitchen counter to community.
Today, Slow North is a thriving small business in Austin, Texas. We’ve expanded from our first candle to an entire line of natural wellness goods—including our customer-loved heated neck wraps and weighted eye masks—all made with your well-being in mind.

We even teach candle-making workshops in our retail shop, helping others discover the joy of intentional creation.
