Jenny Pennywood is the visual world created by artist Jen Garrido, where pattern and play take the lead. Jen studied painting, receiving a BFA from Sonoma State and an MFA in Studio Arts from Mills College. In 2008, Jen created the alter-art-ego Jenny Pennywood as a way to explore design outside the expectations of the fine art world.
What began as a business based in hyper-local production of napkins and tea towels, the brand has widened the frame. It’s been a natural evolution of how Jenny Pennywood wants to be in the world, not stuck in the kitchen, but out in the world with people: moving, stretching, walking around.
The growth is grounded in the founding mindset and spark that started Jenny Pennywood. The patterned basics, home textiles, socks, accessories, and artwork continue to carry forward the vivid colors, the playful patterns, and the visual joy that Jen’s alter-art-ego always dreamed of being.
We’re not too precious around here. From the start we made things meant to be used, everyday, over and over. As a business we’ve learned things shift, plans change, and fabric shrinks. We roll with it. That’s kind of the whole idea. As the alter-art-ego of Jen Garrido, Jenny Pennywood is committed to continue to embrace the changes.
This all started with napkins that didn’t stay square (thanks to our small-batch over-dye process). Now it’s grown into something bigger: patterned basics, accessories, home goods, little things that make daily life more colorful. We’re always adjusting, always asking what feels good, what works better, and what keeps us curious.
Being unsquare isn’t just about napkins anymore. It’s how we build the brand and it's how we think. A little looser, a little wonkier, a lot more us.
